In partnership with Gwinnett Chamber economic development, Brand Mortgage Group – a full service lender and mortgage financing solutions provider headquartered in Gwinnett – reported an overall two-year growth rate of 198% from 2008-2010. Adding over 100 new jobs in the last two years, Brand now employs over 150 people and has doubled its space in both Duluth and Buckhead.

Brand Mortgage Group, which is headquartered at 6224 Sugarloaf Pkwy in Duluth, has added an entire floor to their local facility. The headquarters now covers over 16,000 square feet of space and was fully built out to include cubicle and office space, furniture, copiers and computers.

The company is a full service lender, offering a multitude of mortgage financing options including FHA, VA, USDA, Conventional, and Jumbo loans.

Proposed Light Rail Recieves Funds from FTA Alternatives Analysis Program

Atlanta, GA --- Two proposed light rail lines in the metro Atlanta region received a boost today in the form of federal funding awards. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced $25.7 million in competitively awarded grants through the Alternative Analysis grant program to help community officials in 15 states evaluate and select the best options to help place new or expanded transit systems in their communities. Cobb and Gwinnett Counties were both beneficiaries of the program.

Gwinnett County, the Gwinnett Village Community Improvement District (CID) and Gwinnett Place CID jointly received a $600,000 grant to fund the analysis for a line the groups have been studying for three years.

H&R Block to Host Career Fairs

ATLANTA - Job seekers in Metro Atlanta will have two opportunities to find seasonal work with one of the country's largest tax preparation firms. H&R Block has scheduled two career fairs in the area.

"With tax season almost upon us, this is a great opportunity with a solid company that does not require tax knowledge," H&R Block's Andrea Thompson said in a news release. "There will be on-the-spot interviews, so come prepared."

Duluth Company Wins National Award

WASHINGTON, DC -- Marsha Bomar, president of Street Smarts, Inc., in Duluth, Ga.,  has received the 2010 Community Service Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). 

This award recognizes a principal or manager of an ACEC member firm who has made a significant contribution to the quality of life in his community.

Marsh was such a successful leader of the 2008 Gwinnett County (Ga.) United Way Campaign—a campaign that achieved its $4.7 million goal despite the troubled economy—that the United Way took the unusual step of asking her to serve for a second year as chair.

A key achievement during her dynamic leadership was forging a partnership with the Gwinnett Braves, the local minor league baseball team.  Through various special promotions throughout the baseball season, the United Way was able to both raise money and generate exposure for its work in the community.

Georgia DOT announces I-85 express lane construction information session

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. – The Georgia Department of Transportation will hold a construction information session on the I-85 Express Lane Project on Sept. 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Gwinnett Civic Center. The project to convert 16 miles of HOV lanes to HOT lanes will offer more choices to all motorists, including single occupant vehicles and more reliable trip times in the corridor.

"This is the first project of its kind in Georgia," said DOT Commissioner Vance C. Smith, Jr. "With construction expected to begin in mid-September, it is extremely important that motorists understand how changes along the interstate will impact their commutes."

The Georgia Force Returns, Starting in 2011

DULUTH, GA - The Georgia Force is back among the living, and it's landing in Gwinnett County.

The Arena Football Team folded with the remainder of the indoor football league in 2008, after large debts forced the league to suspend operations. In late 2009, a replacement league formed from the ashes of the old league, and began playing football once again in 2010 - but the 15-team league began without the Force.

After the 2010 season, five more teams, including the Georgia Force, opted for joining the new AFL.

The new Force will play its games at the Arena at Gwinnett Center beginning in 2011. Season tickets are available at the Gwinnett Center box office with prices ranging from $59 to as much as $1,350.
