LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The Gwinnett County Solid Waste and Recovered Materials department is celebrating Earth Day on Saturday to help residents recycle during their spring cleaning.

From 9:00 - 11:00 that morning, a Gwinnett official said the department will collect old file papers, broken electronics, flat tires and paint cans on Coolray Field. 

For Earth Day, all paper will be shredded at no charge. Television sets will cost $10 each to recycle. There is a limit of eight tires per vehicle, and five one-gallon paint cans. The paint will be donated to Global Paint for Charity. The non-profit organization gives paint to developing countries all over the world.

NORCROSS, Ga. -- The City of Norcross is making March 30 the Spring Clean-Up and Recycling Day in the Norcross area.

Part of the "CAN" Do for Hunger food drive, American Security Shredding will be in Norcross at City Hall from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Each vehicle that brings donations can leave up to five medium boxes.

Documents, electronics and food are being accepted. 

Tixie Fowler, a City of Norcross official said the event is a way to properly dispose of old mobile phones, computers and keyboards. These items can be dropped off at the Norcross Community Center from 9:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Canned or non-perishable goods should be donated to the 2013 "CAN" Do for Hunger Campaign. 

Most items can be dropped off and recycled free of cost, but Fowler said some recyclable items may have a small fee. She said overall, the drive is held to lower human impact on the local environment. 

Georgians for Pastured Poultry (GPP), an alliance that is promoting the use of high-welfare, pasture raised poultry in Georgia, has created Pastured Poultry Week to take place Monday, June 11 through Sunday, June 17, 2012.

As part of this annual event, Atlanta restaurants will help spread the word about the many virtues of pastured poultry – its superior taste, the natural life of the chickens, and the positive impact on both human health and the health of the environment – by serving it on their menus every day during this designated week. Additionally, chef demonstrations at local farmers markets throughout the spring and summer will educate consumers on ways to prepare pastured poultry in order to continue raising awareness.
