PROBE College Fair coming to Gwinnett

DULUTH, Ga. -- The popular PROBE College Fair will stop in north Gwinnett County this week, giving high school students an opportunity to speak directly to representatives from their favorite colleges and universities.

The fair will be Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth.

A number of schools in several states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Tennessee and the Carolinas, will be represented. See a complete list of participating colleges.

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. -- Whole Foods will hold information sessions this week for those who are interested in working at its newest Atlanta-area location.

The grocery chain hopes to hire between 50 and 100 team members for the store in Alpharetta's Avalon development.

ATLANTA –- More than 90 of Atlanta’s most notable and on-the-rise restaurants have signed on to participate in this year’s Taste of Atlanta, which will take place October 24-26 in Midtown at Tech Square.

With eateries featured from both inside and outside the Perimeter, festival-goers will be able to savor truly authentic flavors that represent every corner of the city.

New this year, to help attendees pinpoint their local favorites or discover new dining treasures during Taste of Atlanta, the festival will take food lovers on a culinary tour through the city’s many diverse neighborhoods.

Gwinnett County Police Department to hold job fair

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- The Gwinnett County Police Department will hire new officers during a job fair this weekend.

The department said it is looking for professional candidates who are interested in improving the quality of life in Gwinnett, and serving and protecting the county's 800,000 residents.

Gwinnett officers earn competitive salaries, tuition reimbursements, health and 401(k) benefits, and access to take-home cars.

The job fair will be Saturday, Aug. 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the county's Police Training Center, which is located at 854 Winder Highway in Lawrenceville.

Race this weekend: Button Down Dash

Race this weekend: Button Down Dash

DULUTH, Ga. -- The Gwinnett Chamber will hold its annual Button Down Dash 5K and 10K this weekend.

Both races will begin and end at the chamber's headquarters. The fun begins at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.

Money raised by the event will benefit a number of deserving local causes, including "Just" People, Dream House for Medically Fragile Children, Inc., and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

"As we maintain our commitment to transforming healthcare, we are looking forward to supporting our active community at the Gwinnett Chamber's Button Down Dash," said Phil Wolfe, president and CEO of Gwinnett Medical Center, a race sponsor.

Registration is $30 for the 5K, $35 for the 10K and $20 for a fun run. Runners can sign up at buttondowndash.com.

The Gwinnett Chamber is located at 6500 Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.

Gwinnett County Public Library is proud to announce New York Times bestselling author Luis Carlos Montalván, a 17-year veteran and former U.S. Army captain, as the featured author for the 2014 One Book, One Community countywide reading program.
 
Montalván will be joined by his beloved service dog, Tuesday, for events on September 20 and 21.
 
Montalván and Tuesday will kick off the 2014 Suwanee Fest on Saturday, September 20 at 9 am as grand marshals for the Suwanee Fest Parade.
 
At 11:30 am on the Town Center Stage, Montalván will read from his children’s book, “Tuesday Tucks Me In: The Loyal Bond between a Soldier and his Service Dog,” which details a day in the life of this service dog extraordinaire as narrated by Tuesday.

Aviation school to hold open house

Aviation school to hold open house

DULUTH, Ga. -- Aviation Institute of Maintenance (AIM) in Gwinnett County will hold a free open house next week.

The event will be Friday, July 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Members of the public are invited to visit the campus, take a tour, learn about training and watch an aircraft engine start-up. Visitors will also be entered to win a hot air balloon ride. Lunch and snacks will be served.
