The best MMA fight night in Atlanta keeps getting better as the fights return to Wild Bill’s on Friday, May 20. This show comes on the heels of one of the best Wild Bill’s Fight Nights in its five year history. We’re sure the fighters on the May 20 card will come out to prove that this fight night will be better than the last!

Headlining the show is local talen Tex Johnson. Tex has appeared at The Ultimate Fighter tryouts, has headlined Wild

Bill’s Fight Nights and other Atlanta shows in the past, won the most recent COPA Grappling at the Combat Sports EXPO and is currently training at both Defkon1 and Alliance under world renowed trainer Jacare. He will put his 7-5 record against South Carolina’s John Richard.

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- A popular seafood restaurant chain has partnered with the Salvation Army to benefit the Georgia and Alabama families affected by the storms on Apr. 28.

On Thursday, May 12 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., customers who dine at certain Joe's Crab Shack locations will have 10 percent of their checks donated to the Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army has been on the ground providing relief to the immediate needs of tornado survivors in Georgia and Alabama.

WEEKEND EVENTS: National Public Gardens Day, kiln opening and Spring Fling

ATHENS, Ga. – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

To commemorate National Public Gardens Day, sponsored by the Rain Bird and American Public Gardens Association, nationwide gardens are offering free admission with a coupon printout, which can be found here. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, located in Athens, is accepting these coupons. The Garden is located about three miles south of the University. The address is 2450 South Milledge Avenue in Athens.

Visit Vines Garden in Loganville on Sunday May 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for National Train Day at Vines Garden. This event is being presented by Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. Engineers will be on hand holding information sessions on trains at the largest railroad in the Southeast.

ATLANTA -- Happy Friday! Celebrate the start of the weekend with a half-price however-you-want-it Frappuccino from Starbucks.

On May 6, participating Starbucks stores will hold the first Frappuccino Happy Hour from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. All flavors and sizes of the popular blended coffee drink are half-price during Happy Hour.

Starbucks is also bringing back two coconut drinks for summer.

The Mocha Coconut Frappuccino is a signature flavor in the chain's Hawaii stores.

LOCAL PROFILE: Fort Yargo State Park

WINDER, Ga. – Go outside and be a kid, again, at the Fort Yargo State Park. The park, which is located between the capitol city and the land-o-Bulldogs, is a popular among city dwellers who want to a getaway.  

This park was built for the outdoor enthusiast. Visitors can take advantage of the parks eighteen mile biking and hiking trails, the 260-acre lake and wooded disc golf course. The lake offers swimming, kayaking, fishing and boating; so there’s something for everyone.

The park also has a campground and three cottages that rent for $130, each. Those who wish to rent a boat may do so for a minimal fee and others can play miniature and dish golf for $4 and under. The facility also is home to two tennis courts.

Upcoming Events: On May 7, the park will host the Dirty Spokes Mountain Bike Race from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

ATLANTA -- 11Alive's morning team rolled out the red carpet Monday morning to honor Metro Atlanta's "Class Act" teachers. The 31 men and women were nominated by their peers and students for special recognition for their committment to their classes and students.


On Monday, the 31 educators, their principals and some family and friends joined the 11Alive morning team as a live studio audience.
