GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Fire officials believe a Tuesday morning house fire in Duluth began in the home's fireplace.

Crews arrived at the house in the 2800 block of Mockingbird Circle shortly after midnight, where they found flames burning in the attic and chimney.

Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the blaze had spread beyond the fireplace, burning into the attic and exterior wall. It damaged the chimney area and sent smoke throughout the two-story house.

Two adults were home when they fire began. They said they awoke to a popping sound and called 911 when they discovered the flames. Rutledge said the two occupants used the fireplace earlier in the evening.

No one was hurt in the fire. Its cause is under investigation, but Rutledge said it appeared accidental.
