Purse snatching suspects caught driving stolen car

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Two suspects were arrested for stealing a woman's purse at a Gwinnett County shopping center.

It happened last Friday morning. The victim said her purse was snatched as she walked to meet her husband at Sam's Club in the 3400 block of Steve Reynolds Boulevard.

Gwinnett County Police said a car pulled up alongside the victim. A man got out of the passenger side and grabbed the victim's purse. He jumped back into the car, which was being driven by a female suspect, and sped away.

The victim memorized part of the car's license plate number and gave police a detailed description of the vehicle. A Georgia State Patrol trooper soon spotted the car on Interstate 85 south near Chamblee Tucker Road and tried to pull it over. The suspects refused to stop and began a chase. It ended when the GSP performed a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver, forcing the suspects' car to turn sideways and stop.

Police determined the car was reported stolen in North Carolina. They recovered the victim's stolen property inside and returned the items to her.

The suspects -- 18-year-old Raekwon Duan Carter and 23-year-old Natasha Monique McKnight -- were charged with robbery by sudden snatching and theft by receiving. They are being held in the Gwinnett County Jail.
