Officials: body found in burned Gwinnett County apartment | News
DULUTH, Ga — Fire crews are investigating after a body was found inside a burned Gwinnett County apartment Tuesday afternoon.
According to officials, crews responded to a fire at a unit in the 1500 block of The Falls Parkway in Duluth after a neighbor called 911 to report smoke coming from the second story of the building. Police arrived to the scene first and found the victim's body inside the apartment.
Investigators say the victim lived in the apartment where the fire happened. A woman and child, who also lived at the residence, were not home at the time.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control shortly before 3 p.m. Now, police and fire officials working to determine what started the fire. At this time, investigators don't suspect foul play.
Officials are not yet releasing the victim's name, but they described the person as an adult male in his 20s. His body has been turned over to the medical examiner for an autopsy.
