Building a network of women in construction & interior design

DULUTH, Ga. -- Women in construction and interior design are meeting Monday, May 20th at Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity ReStore for an opportunity to fellowship and network.  Building strong relationships with women is important in a man's industry and merging women in construction and interior design to build the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Sugarloaf Chapter membership is the goal of getting women in the design|build industries together.

I joined Habitat for Humanity as the Donations Coordinator for Gwinnett Habitat ReStore in October 2012. Over the years I have built up a nice network of interior designers and design related resources but needed to meet more contractors. Brendan Hamel of The Blue Book (Building & Construction Network)  took me under his wing and has helped integrate me into the construction community.  The Blue Book is sponsoring our event and will be a strong supporter of both NAWIC and Gwinnett Habitat ReStore in the future.

I met Lana Frye the Sugarloaf Chapter President and IEC Atlanta Workforce Developer at the NAWIC Atlanta meeting and she invited me to attend the Sugarloaf Chapter meeting.  This is where I met a great group of women in construction who are committed to professional development, education , networking, leadership, public service and mentoring.  The ladies understand how important it is to work together to support each other, mentor and help create business opportunities. During the meeting I thought how powerful it could be to get the women in design connected with the women in construction. Gwinnett Habitat ReStore will host the NAWIC Sugarloaf Chapter Membership Drive, Monday, May 20th 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 2100 Riverside Pkwy, Lawrenceville, 30043.

The event will create a win-win opportunity for all involved. Gwinnett Habitat ReStore will increase awareness of how people can SHOP. DONATE. VOLUNTEER to support the Habitat mission to build homes and hope in our community.  NAWIC Sugarloaf will meet new professional women  who will join and The Blue Book will share their construction contacts and meet others in return.

If you are interested in NAWIC Sugarloaf but can't make our event Monday, May 20th please contact Sugarloaf Chapter President Lana Frye, lana.frye@atlanta.org.
