ATLANTA – Tequila Hayes is in good spirits, especially since winning a quarter-million dollar prize from the Georgia Lottery. Hayes of Smyrna matched the first five winning numbers from Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing to claim a $250,000 prize.

Hayes, 36, used her grandparents’ birthdays for her lucky combination.

She claimed her prize Wednesday morning at the Georgia Lottery District Office in Duluth.

“I got an email, and I recognized the numbers,” Hayes said. “I checked and was extremely excited.”

The mother of five woke her husband, Eric, and called her sister to share the good news.

“We’ve always joked that we’d win,” the lucky winner shared.

Feeling “great” over her windfall, Hayes anticipates paying off bills and taking a vacation.

Winning numbers from Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing were: 6-10-12-28-32 and the Mega Ball was 38.

RaceTrac #0633, 2550 Spring Road in Smyrna, sold the winning numbers.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Horticulture students at Gwinnett Technical College will host a plant sale later this month and an edible sale next month.

The plant sale will be Apr. 16-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the college's greenhouse.

Plenty of plant types will be sold, including annuals, perennials, shrubs, herbs and house plants.

The edible sale will be May 7-9 and will feature fruits, vegetables and herbs.

"I know every year we say the plant sale gets better, but the greenhouse is spectacular. The students have pulled together the best looking and the healthiest plants ever," Gwinnett Tech horticulture program director Aaron Poulsen said in a statement. "There are more varieties than we have time to list, and I think our supporters will be pleased."

Cash and checks will be accepted at the sale; those wishing to use credit and debit cards will have to pay in the school's business office.

Belk to leave Gwinnett Place Mall

DULUTH, Ga. -- Belk will leave Gwinnett Place Mall in August, reports the Gwinnett Daily Post.

The paper adds that it was in March 2012 that retail property giant Simon dropped Gwinnett Place as a client.

The Duluth mall, which opened in 1984, has long struggled to compete with Simon properties Sugarloaf Mills and Mall of Georgia, the paper said.

Jessica Graham, Belk's vice president of communications and community relations, said the store made the decision to leave "after carefully evaluating our business plans, competitive position and the financial performance of the store."
