NORTHEAST METRO – For this week’s installment of Best Spots, we’re compiling a list of Inexpensive Date Spots for you to take your special someone.

In today’s economy, it’s important to find companionship which, in our opinion, is the cheapest form of entertainment. However, it’s the springtime, and people like to get out every now and then. So, check out these suggestions for fun under $15.

If your date is a romantic, Athens-Clarke County Greenways and Riverside Parks are hosting a Full Moon Hike. This guided hike will be lighted by the full moon, which occurs on April 26. The hike begins at 8:00 p.m. and ends at 10:00 p.m. Athens residents will be admitted for a $2 fee, all non-residents will be charged $5.

Gwinnett Braves and American Cancer Society to hold 5K

BUFORD, Ga. -- On May 14, the Gwinnett Braves will team up with the American Cancer Society for their Family Fun Run 5K. The run will be held at Coolray Field and begins at 8AM.

At the same event, there will be a one-mile run that starts at 8:10AM. According to Bill Manson, the Area Executive Director for the American Cancer Society, “This is a great opportunity for Gwinnett County families to come out and have fun while raising awareness and funds for a great cause – fighting cancer".

Registration for the race, the day of, will begin at 7AM. The cost to participate is $30 per runner, with a discount to $20 a runner for running clubs. Also, the entire family can participate with just one $30 registration fee. The course begins in the parking lot of Gwinnett Braves field and finishes on the Coolray Field playing surface. 

All proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society.

New head ready for his first Gwinnett Relay for Life

DULUTH — If you wish to participate in the May 6 Gwinnett Relay for Life, there's on tidbit you should know. The race has a new coordiator, Bill Manson, is ready for his first Gwinnett County Relay for Life.


The race will begin at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds and those wishing to register can visit www.gwinnettrelayforlife.org, or search “Gwinnett Relay for Life” on Facebook. On Twitter, follow “gwinnettrelay.”

Play Ball for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta

LAWRENCEVILLE – The inaugural Gwinnett Baseball Classic will be held on Wednesday, March 9th, beginning at 7PM. This matchup at Coolray Field is between two premiere college baseball teams, University of Georgia and University of Alabama.

Proceeds from this game will benefit the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta: Children’s Foundation. Tickets for the game will be sold at the door for $12 and doors open at 6PM.

Coolray Field is located at 1 Braves Avenue in Lawrenceville.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Atlanta and Gwinnett Braves will host Willie Nelson’s Country Throwdown on Sunday, June 12 at Coolray Field in Gwinnett. The main stage will feature country music legend Willie Nelson, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser and Lee Brice.

Pre-sale tickets are available now and tickets purchased during the pre-sale will enable ticket holders to enter Coolray Field 15 minutes prior to doors opening and also give them two “anytime tickets” to use for an upcoming 2011 Gwinnett Braves game. Doors will open at 3 p.m.

DULUTH– GOAALLLL!!!! Guests are invited to the Atlanta Thrashers open practices will be held on Saturday, February 12th at 10:00 a.m. Fans can use this opportunity to see their favorite Thrashers players up close, free of charge. Thrashers practice sessions on non-game days are held at the Ice Forum in Duluth.

These sessions are free and open to the public. The ice times below are approximate and sometimes the practices are preceded by a video session, so the players may not be on the ice until 20-30 minutes after the posted practice time.

Celebrity Stylist and owner of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers, Candy Shaw Codner, consulted with each of the girls to ensure a personalized style that is also within the cohesive “look of the squad,” relying on her over 25 years of experience as one of the worlds top stylists and her more then ten year relationship with the Atlanta area sports teams.
