Justin Gatlin

Gatlin (second from right) won silver in the 4x100m relay with teammates Ryan Bailey, Tyson Gay and Trell Kimmons. Gatlin, a 30-year-old Florida native, used to train in metro Atlanta. He made it to London, his second Olympics, after serving a four-year ban for doping.

Angel McCoughtry and Maya Moore

Moore (second from left) and McCoughtry (right) helped lead the basketball team to Olympic gold. McCoughtry, 25, is a Baltimore native who graduated from the University of Louisville and now plays for the Atlanta Dream, while the 23-year-old Moore grew up in Gwinnett County and attended Suwanee's Collins Hill High School; she was drafted by the Minnesota Lynx after graduating from the University of Connecticut.

Trotter (right) and teammates Sanya Richards-Ross, Francena McCorory and Allyson Felix won gold in the 4x400m relay. Trotter, 29, graduated from Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, where she was also a basketball star.

Angelo Taylor

Taylor (left) won silver in the 4x400m relay with teammates Tony McQuay, Joshua Mance and Bryshon Nellum. The 33-year-old DeKalb County native is a Georgia boy through and through; he was born in Augusta, graduated from both Southwest DeKalb High School and Georgia Tech, and still lives in Decatur. Taylor won Olympic gold in the 400m hurdles in Sydney and Beijing.

Christian Taylor

Taylor, 22, won gold in the triple jump. He grew up in Tyrone, graduated from Sandy Creek High School and jumped for the University of Florida for three years before going pro.

Carli Lloyd

Lloyd (third from left) was the hero of the gold medal soccer match, scoring both of the U.S. team's goals and clinching the win against Japan. She also scored the gold medal-winning goal against Brazil in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Lloyd, 30, grew up in New Jersey and plays for the Atlanta Beat.

Merritt won gold in the 110m hurdles. The track star, who recently celebrated his 27th birthday, graduated from Marietta's Wheeler High School before attending the University of Tennessee; his family still lives in Mableton.

Trotter won the bronze medal in the 400m. The 29-year-old sprinter grew up in Ellenwood and graduated from Cedar Grove High School; she won Olympic gold in the 4x400m relay at the 2004 Athens Games.

Allison Schmitt

Schmitt (right) earned her third gold medal and fifth medal overall in the 4x100m medley relay, swimming freestyle as the last leg; Missy Franklin swam backstroke, Rebecca Soni swam breaststroke and Dana Vollmer swam butterfly. Schmitt, a 22-year-old University of Georgia senior, won a medal in every single event she swam in London.

Gray, 28, won the gold medal in the 50m rifle. The Pennsylvania-born shooter is the assistant rifle coach at Columbus State University. She first burst onto the shooting scene under her maiden name, Jamie Beyerle.

Hoffa took home the bronze medal in shot put. The third time's the charm for this 34-year-old Evans native and University of Georgia graduate; he finally reached the podium after failing to medal in Beijing and Athens.

Amanda Weir

Although Weir, 26, did not race in the 4x100m freestyle relay, she was still a member of the relay team and therefore shared in her teammates' bronze medal. Weir graduated from Snellville's Brookwood High School and the University of Georgia.

Vreeland (second from right), 20, and Schmitt (right), 22, won gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay with teammates Missy Franklin and Dana Vollmer. Both swimmers attend the University of Georgia; Vreeland, a junior from Kansas, is majoring in international business, while Schmitt, a Michigan native, is studying psychology.
